Pentest for VoIP Cloud-based System

The client required a comprehensive penetration testing engagement for a cloud-based VoIP integration platform. The project scope covered the entire testing lifecycle, including:

• Test Methodology
  • Testing Approach: Grey-box assessment simulating both insider and external attack perspectives.
  • Test Category: Cloud-Based Service Penetration Testing.
  • Objective: Evaluated the platform’s resilience against real-world cyber threats targeting authenticated and semi-authenticated components, particularly user-facing functionalities.
• Tools Used:
  • Burp Suite Professional for intercepting, modifying, and replaying HTTP requests.
  • Custom Python Scripts for crafting and validating email payloads.
• Test Procedure
  • Reconnaissance and Feature Mapping: Identified key exposed components, including user portals, admin dashboards, and email notification workflows. Mapped all HTTP(S) endpoints and enumerated parameters via Burp Suite to define the complete attack surface.
  • Injection of Malicious Payloads: Crafted and injected advanced HTML/JavaScript payloads (e.g., <img src=x onerror=alert('XSS')>) into critical input fields such as “customer name” and “message.” Sent payloads through Burp Suite to trigger the email system, ensuring their delivery with intact rendering in recipient inboxes.
  • Verification of Exploit: Verified that the malicious emails successfully reached end-users with embedded payloads while retaining the company’s legitimate domain and sender address, making the exploit highly convincing. Payload execution was confirmed across browser-based email clients
